Decorative Large Glass Compote Or Bowl Made In France

Image
We have a beautifully styled large glass compote or bowl that was made in France as per the sticker marking on the bowl itself. This compote measures 7 1/2" in diameter at the mouth of the bowl and about 5" tall. It is a very heavy piece and gorgeously etched with a fruit and leaves motif. The design is very detailed both around the compote itself and on the base. Please view the photos for more details. Note that the lighting in the photos is due to glare from my window. It is free of any chips or cracks and in excellent condition. It was kept along with other glass pieces in my Mom's glass curio cabinet for years. This would make a beautiful addition to any home decor and the perfect compote for fruit. It is a simply lovely piece. The San Francisco 49ers Team of the Decade Hardcover Book

Image
Back in the 80's the San Francisco 49ers were at the top of their game. I still remember so vividly the parties in the streets after those super bowl wins. That was a special time in San Francisco history and I don't know that we will ever see that again with the Niners. I bought this book when it was released and read it a couple of times. It serves as history and shares inside stories into the Niners rise to the top with their super bowl victories. The book is in great shape with only some minor wear on the dust jacket. It was kept in a closed book shelf for years. This is a wonderful addition for any collector who loves sports. Thursday Two Questions Meme - Free Advertising

Image
If you are anything like me, you don't like having to pay for advertising especially if you want to just advertise your blog or website.  I was doing a Google search the other day for free advertising for my eBay store, Collectibles Mercantile .  There were many free sites out there but this particular one caught my eye for many reasons. It is called AuctionBump.com of which you can visit by clicking the above animated widget.  I liked it because it is run by an eBay store seller who like me wanted to be able to advertise for free.  The website was created for people to list their auctions and stores in addition to their blogs, websites, myspace pages, eHow pages etc...  all for free.  I like the look and style because you are able to upload a 125 x 125 ad and link it to your site, blog or store. I am always thrilled to find a new venue for free advertising. My two questions this week are: 1.  Do you advertise your blogs, websites and stores on a regul...

Loving Spirits by Red Bear - Wooden Decoupage Wall Plaque

Image
Those of you that know me, know my passion for poetry and art. Those two passions combined with my love of Native American artwork is combined to produce this beautifully crafted decoupage wall plaque which depicts an Indian couple resting on a rock amidst trees and a pond. This plaque is made of wood and was bought in Reno, Nevada decades ago. It measures 11" long and 6 1/2" wide. There is a backstamp though it is difficult to read but I urge you to view the photos on our listing at the link provided below. You will notice a white color on the right hand side behind the male which is a glare from the window. The plaque itself is in perfect condition. The scene is beautifully tranquil and refreshing. There is a poem/quote on the front which reads: Loving Spirits Our spirits mingle in love like the clear and swirling waters of the mountain Red Bear This plaque would be beautiful as is but adding the poem gives it poetic meaning. Decorative Ceramic Robin Figurine Perched Upon An Apple Tree Branch

Image
We have a finely detailed designed robin figurine which is made of some type of resin ceramic. This figurine is highly detailed and finely crafted. It stands approximately 7 1/2" tall about 8" wide at it's widest point and about 6" deep. It also has a wooden base which is marked "bureau" which I believe is a Japanese maker but I do not know for sure. The base measures 6 1/2" in diameter. The robin is perched upon an apple tree branch and displays an apple and leaves in rich natural colors. The robin's coloring is perfectly vivid with fantastic details on the feathers. I urge you to view the photos for more fine details. What I really like most about this piece is that it looks real. If it were sitting in a garden setting without the wo...

Limited Edition Collectibles Versus Non Limited Editions - What Do You Buy?

Image
The collectibles world in general is an ever changing venue for buying, selling and collecting. There was a time when limited edition collectibles were at a peak and trading for 100% and more above their original price point. Today, however, many do not hold that price any longer for various reasons. Many artists now sign with several different producers and allow their work to be strewn among many different genres. A good example is Thomas Kinkade. Where once his plates were highly collectible and produced by one manufacturer, now his works can be seen everywhere and on everything from books to calendars to note cards and more. Once that happens, the work depreciates. Limited editions are about supply and demand. When the supply is higher than the demand, the items no longer hold a high value. Limited editions are based on either the amount of days in which an item was produced or a specific number of pieces. There are many items described as collectibles which are not limit...

Thursday Two Questions Meme - Childhood Collections

Image
As a child I never really liked dolls or collected anything.  I enjoyed craft projects and at an early age would build TV sets, stages, and altars out of cardboard and construction paper and paint them and adorn them with flowers, bows and anything I could find which would be fitting for their purpose.  I also made puppets and loved to draw and color.  I was actually pretty talented in these areas until I grew into my teenage years.  Then I became more interested in boys, music and junk food :D. As I got older, my creative talents as a youngster diminished and I began collecting plates, music boxes and dolls.  It was my way of buying art that I could appreciate and afford.  The doll shown above is "Little Dove" which was created by artist Gregory Perillo .  I fell in love with her the first time I saw her with her little papoose on her back.  She is just adorable. Now, I have grown to a point in my life where less is more and I am shedding my mate...

Plate World Magazine Lot of 18 - Perillo, Kuck and More

Image
Plate World Magazine was the #1 collectible venue for limited edition collector's plates.  It hosted plates by the most prolific and popular artists of our time and featured artists in each issue.  The issues spoke about the art of collecting plates, a behind the scenes look at producing plates, artist profiles, beautiful illustrations, a BRADEX market for plates and so much more.  I was a subscriber for a couple of years.  The issues I have are from 1990 to 1992 - 18 issues in all.  Though I have read and studied each issue, the magazines are in good condition and show normal wear specifically on the front cover corners etc...  This lot is being sold "As Is."   Please view the photos for more details.  There are no rips or tears on the pages that I have found.  When you view the photos please be aware that the photos show glare from a window on the right hand side.  Below is a listing of each issue and it's features. January-Fe...

This elegantly designed fan collectors plate depicts intricately styled flowers in stunning detail and color.  They are gold with hints of red and white alongside beautiful gold butterflies.  The plate itself is a green color with gold borders.  Please view the photos.  Also I wanted to mention that the handle on the fan is a gold color despite the photo which displays it as looking red which is the color I was wearing and reflected in the light.  At it's widest point, the plate measures 9 1/2" by approximately 6 1/2".   It is a simple yet beautifully styled piece and is in good condition.  It shows minor scuff wear on the bottom of the plate.  I urge you to view the photos. The bottom of the plate reads TOYO Jade Kiku Japan and has Asian writing. For more details and ordering instructions, visit our listing at Collectibles Mercantile .
