Winter in the Country 1857 by: George Henry Durrie Scene in the Arctic 1880 by: William Bradford Oranges in Tissue Paper 1890  by: William Joseph McCloskey Today I am bringing you a few of my favorite paintings from the DeYoung Museum here in San Francisco.  I am an art lover and though I do appreciate modern art, my heart is with traditional pieces.  I have always enjoyed snow scenes and the artist George Henry Durrie in my opinion is one of the best and my favorite.   He is one of the top artists for the Currier and Ives collections. Winter scenes have always touched my heart and made me feel safe and comfortable.  I also noticed that while typing the information for each painting that they and others that I admire hail from the nineteenth century.  The coincidence is that my favorite poets also lived in that same time frame. 1.  Could it be I was poetic shutterbug in an earlier life and lived among these artists? ...

Winter In The Country by George Henry Durrie Click Photo To Enlarge My very dear friends, Gary and Trish gave me tickets to the Picasso exhibit at the DeYoung Museum this past weekend. I went with Carmen and we enjoyed the day at the museum then lunch at Park Chalet with some great music. I have to say I really like art whether it be classic, contemporary or otherwise. I always appreciate work by every artist out there. It takes so much talent, passion and patience to create a piece of art. There are some I enjoy more than others and the painting I've photographed above is one of my many favorites at the DeYoung. I like landscapes and nature scenes. I've always favored Winter scenes in any setting. I am certainly not a connoisseur when it comes to art but I know what I like. My two questions this week are: 1. Before ~ Dale Chihuly Glass Sculpture - I shot this at an exhibit at the DeYoung Museum about a year ago or so. I love his artwork and this particular photo so I thought I would play around with it and see what transpires. I have also decided to give my new art obsession a name. It will be called the Photoscapes Unleashed Series. After - I applied the watercolor settings along with the swirl and pinch applications and added the warm color tones. Here is the result. Enjoy!

The Koran Japanese Calligraphy Stone Calligraphy From Iran The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco is one of the world’s largest Asian museums. It was originally located in Golden Gate Park for over 30 years. Due to the large collections housed in the museum, the city - meaning us voters, voted to move it into the newly renovated main public library location in the civic center area of SF. It has been permanently housed there now for about 6 years. To be honest I was against that move. I thought it should have remained in Golden Gate Park. However, that being said the museum is gorgeous. There are floors dedicated to various regions in Asia to include China, Japan, Southeast Asia, Korea, Persia etc… There are sculptures and paintings, calligraphy and jewels and so much more.
