Big Bugs

Today marked the opening of the Big Bugs Outside the Box exhibition at the San Francisco zoo.  These life like sculptures of bugs and insects are simply amazing to see.  I am not a bug person so I didn't know if I would like seeing these so huge and up close but I loved it.  To see these creatures in detail gave me a new appreciation for the insect life.   The exhibition also includes detailed information about each species along with history and interesting facts.  If you are in the San Francisco area, this is a must see exhibition. Eastern Tailed Blues Collector's Plate by Lena Liu

Under the hallmark of W.S. George fine china, we have Eastern Tailed Blues by artist Lena Liu. Lena Liu, born in Taiwan began studying Oriental art at a very early age. Ms. Liu combines the traditions of Oriental art brush work and her own unique style of ebb and flow to each one of her artistic masterpieces. This plate is the sixth issue in the On Gossamer Wings series and the first collector's plate series ever sponsored by The Xerces Society. This plate is strictly limited to 150 firing days and was issued in 1989. The plate is numbered 7076 C with a BRADEX #84-G20-3.6. It measures 8 1/2" in diameter. The plate depicts three beautifully colored butterflies with pastel imbued flowers and leaves. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or marks.
