Poetic Shutterbug

Those of you who know me and follow this blog know that I love flowers, plants, trees and nature in general.  I cannot be in the Botanical Gardens without my camera.  Although I visit there very often I can never get enough of the South African gardens.  The plants and flowers that grow there are just so exotic and beautiful that I am obsessed with photographing them.  I thought I would share with you some of my favorites along with the signage that is posted in that particular garden. Proteacea Leucospermum "Scarlet Ribbon" Native to South Africa, this shrub blooms in the Winter and Spring. It grows up to eight feet high and four to five feet wide. It is pink and salmon in color with blooms that also include a feature that looks like tiny red ribbons. It needs full sun exposure and is deer tolerant. I love coming across all of these exotic plants in the gardens. I've been taking more time in jotting down names and descriptions. Banksia Serrata or Old Man Banksia is native to South East Australia and is a woody shrub which is an important source of food for honey eaters. I took these photos at the Botanical Gardens in the Australian garden. There were some very exotic and unusual plant species there.

Gunnera in the Ancient Plant Garden

Photo taken by me at the Botanical Gardens As usual I was trekking along in the gardens, snapping away and did not take notes of any names. This is quite exotic so I thought I'd ask my very knowledgeable readership to identify this tree/plant. I will be going back to the gardens this week and will get the name. The photo does not do it justice. I felt as if I were on a tropical island.
