What Is It?

Photo taken by me at the Botanical Gardens

As usual I was trekking along in the gardens, snapping away and did not take notes of any names. This is quite exotic so I thought I'd ask my very knowledgeable readership to identify this tree/plant. I will be going back to the gardens this week and will get the name. The photo does not do it justice. I felt as if I were on a tropical island.

I was going to say, banana, but my banana trees don't look like this, but who knows.

Ferret, I have no idea what it is, I didn't take any notes but I'll check sometime this week. BTW did you get your book?

Kass, LOL more than likely, YES! :D

rainfield61 might have the answer. It looks like something one might encounter in Malaysia or the Caribbean. Jo, was there something else in the Gardens that caught your eye so that you didn't get the name....a two legged animal, perchance?

It's the flower of Baby/Nino Banana since there are some bananas on top!

I agree it does look very tropical. I have no idea what it is though.

My only guess would be that it's a coconut. But I live in Michigan, so I don't think my guess is much good. I'm curious to find out though.

I was going to say coconut or breadfruit, but I don't think breadfruit grows here.
This photo is intriguing! I will wait for your next ost for the revelation.
I would like to think that it is a coconut tree but it doesn't look like it as a whole!

I think IcyBC is correct. It's the body of the banana branch.

That's definitely a banana tree, with banana and banana flowers.
Certain type of banana flowers can be boiled and eaten with some very spicy sauce we call "sambal" over here. :)

I think Icy may be right too. I will be going there today and getting the correct name for all of you. I'll have it tomorrow. Thanks to all of you, this was fun.
