New Years Resolution or Procrastination?

Why New Years resolutions? Why not mid September resolutions or Spring resolutions? My personal belief is, if you have a goal or changes that need to be made and decide to employ these goals and changes why wait until the New Year? Deciding to do something then saying to yourself well I will wait until the new year to make these resolutions says two things to me.

First, you are not really serious about the resolutions. Why? If you were, you would make the changes immediately. You would not need a start date.

Second, by giving yourself a start date, is just another means of procrastination and is doomed to fail. Statistics show that most New Year’s resolutions fail by mid February.

If you want to set a goal for yourself or change something in your life then do it when you intuitively feel that it is the right time for you, not when the clock strikes midnight. Following your heart and not a time clock will result in success and a happy life. Remember that you have to be in that positive mindset in order to make changes.

Margie: At my age I find it best to do a daily resolution. Like resolving to eat 2 prunes today or have an extra piece of pie. Speaking of pie, why don't you resolve to send one to an old lady?

I've resolved to keep breathing...sometimes, even that is hard to do. I like Margie and Edna's idea of a daily resolution...like, I'll get out of bed today...I already did it, yeah!!!

Hi Joanne! I whole heartly agree with you.
It's like deciding when is the right time to quit smoking. You have to want to, not because the building your in doesn't allow you to.

Great post Jo! I also agree with you, and your commentators above..If you want to change, do it at the moment you decide to do it..

Margie, How about I send you a prune pie?

Carmen, LOL! Same here :)

Bessye, Exactly, Have a wonderful New Year.

Icy, that's the only way it works.

Betchai, Thank you and to you as well.
Ordinary New Year's resolutions without deep convictions and transformation are doomed to failure. They make the person feel good for a while then afterward the force of habit will return even stronger than before. In order for New Year's resolutions to succeed and last, they must be made as a gift offering to the Lord for His glory alone. This is done after we are born again and become new creations in Christ. Thanks for the post. God bless.

I stopped making new years resolutions years ago, I realized it was a waste of time because like most, I never kept them. You are right on the mark with this one.

I agree, if you're serious about making a change, there's probably not a good reason to wait.

Hey! I usually don't bother at all, but whether you call it a resolution or not, I have a goal for January. So if I can keep it going till mid February I will be "in the pink" for sure.

Mel, Thank you so much for visiting and commenting. Have a wonderful New Year.

Ann, exactly, it's all in the mindset.

Diane, you are right. Make the change when you get the inspiration.

Sharkbytes, I hope you keep it and it goes well. Happy New Year.

I totally agree. I don't make resolutions of any kind. If I want to do something, I just do it. I think resolutions usually lead to disappointment.

I completely agree. Just the word resolution can be so stressful it's enough to derail goals like a train on a rusty train track! Great post. Thank you & wish you a wonderful 2010. :-)

Yes, I agree, only do the resolution thing when the heart and mind is ready. Less stressful this way. Wishing you a Happy New Year 2010!

You're right, of course, Jo. I just have to keep struggling all the time just to devise and maintain a routine that gets everything done at the right time, and still allows some time for me. That's all I ask for.

I have some goals for 2010 but none of them are things I've been putting off to use for the New Year. I just tend to reflect and look forward this time of year. As in what did I accomplish this past year adn where do I want to be going next year. My goals for 2010 are just a continued forward progression, not big "resolutions" per se. I agree with you that resolutions don't work.

Have a very Happy New Year!!!

How true! I write articles, and that is one of the pieces of advice I've been putting into the "New Year's" articles (I have to write what sells...and this time of year, New Year's articles are what sells).

Too you as well Mrs. M :)

Jennifer, I've never really looked into selling my articles however that may be another avenue for my writing. Thanks for visiting.
