Thursday Two Questions Meme #71 Social Media

In today's world it is becoming almost essential to be involved with social media sites.  From Twitter to Facebook to the now hot Google + there are simply dozens and dozens of venues to keep us all connected.

I personally use Facebook for both my personal and business interests and Twitter primarily for business.  I also use Stumbleupon, Digg and Reddit for advertising and promoting.  These all work well for me and each keeps me busy working my business and promoting for others.

I recently came across some business colleagues who also use pinterest.com  I had never heard of this site until today.  I went over and basically just looked at the home page which seemed very cluttered to me, even more than Facebook.  As a result I didn't do any further research.

I also checked out Google + until I realized that anything you do online is basically shared with everyone.

My two questions this week are:

1. Do any of you use either pinterest.com or Google + ?

2. If so, would you recommend either one for business promotions?

i have not joined pinterest, but have joined google + but not actively using it since hardly anyone I know is there, but just like Facebook, I can control the privacy settings of each of my post in google plus.

I have looked around on Pinterest and like you thought it looked very cluttered, it really didn't appeal to me. Google+ I haven't explored that much yet.

I can't speak to Google+ or Pintrest for promotions but I have seen quite a few that were a combination of Facebook and Twitter.

It seems I may have joined pinterest, but I don't visit that site. Perhaps, I should, but I'm already too busy as it is. Yes, I do have Google + and again, I don't do too much with this as of yet. It reminds me a lot like Facebook.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough experience with either to say if these social medias would be useful promoting your business or not.

I use Pinterest as a way to keep track of things such as recipes, craft projects etc. I like the site but it's not really meant to be used for self promotion. I believe it even says that somewhere.
As for Google + I don't care for it but then again I don't really like facebook much either. Tiwitter I always found to be totally pointless

I don't have Pinterest, but I just got my Google plus account updated. I think G is very powerful if you know how to use it. Whatever post you plus 1 it will show u p in the circles of friends you have- sort of like the fb idea. That is why Mark Z freaked out about it. Anyhow, got no clue about Pinterest, but I can tell you something honestly...
These new social media channels are a real pain, it takes a lot of time, oh, and I don't appreciate the fact that Google is doing away with gfc on wordpress blogs, afterall it took a lot of time to built up the followers.

I used both, but sparingly. I'm getting the hang of it.

I'd suggest both for business. They are high on the Social media bar right now.

Aloha.

I think there are too many social media sites out there. People spread themselves thin by having to track different accounts or friends. I wished there is a site that can incorporate all the social media sites into one. I have heard of pinterest, but have never tried it. I have been toying with trying Google+, but haven't subscribed yet especially with Google changing their privacy policy in March. I want to see how it turns out before joining another site.

Thank you all for your thoughts and comments on this subject. I have decided to forgo Google + but did sign up for pinterest and so far it's been a great means of promotion.

Thanks and have a great weekend everyone.

Sounds like to me that Google is hogging the bandwidth. I hope the FCC gets involved and makes some regulations to reign then in a bit.

Google is already getting too much info from us now and if we take it (plus) our privacy will be further hamstrung.

I don't know anything about the other. Google ads can be killed but it is a chore to keep them down. I gave up.

Sorry I'm late, things happen.

I have Google +, but I don't spend too much time there. As for Pinterest, I don't like how the copyright is violated, and have read that this is a big issue right now!
