I never saw it before. I checked the dictionary. Speciosa is a Latin word for beautiful, impressive... It describes this flower so perfectly.

It's beautiful. I've never seen anything like it. I couldn't stop looking at it. The shots just kept drawing me back to look again :)

That is a beautiful banksia, i've seen it in Australia a long time ago, but somehow only the red remained in my head. BTW, i wonder what happened to your new Olympus as i can't open yet the full story. I am using also an Oly, but E620. I hope this is more durable.
Oh wow..what a unique flower, and I haven't seen this before! So exquisite looking!

Fascinating flower! And the leaves remind me of the border on my patchwork quilt. Nice macros. :)

Duni, thank you and to you as well.

Josep, they are pretty unusual and the gardens have many species. I just found a new one that I'll be posting later on.

Ann, thanks, they are fascinating to see. I've see some more different ones out there as well.

Andrea, I just came across the red species the other day and took some shots. It's gorgeous so I'll be posting those at a later date. I think my Oly was defective. It began getting very hot to the touch and after about four months just stopped working. I loved it and it took great pics but I don't know what happened. My new GE so far is working fine. It took these pics.

Icy, thanks, there are some very unusual ones at the gardens.

Diane, :D thank you very much. Have a great weekend

Those Aussies have spectacular flowers AND wines...I'd like to see this flower in person, while sipping a nice shiraz.
